A dead word funeral is a fun, engaging way for 4th graders to improve their writing by **retiring** overused and uninteresting words. Students select a "dead word" (like *said* or *good*), research powerful alternatives, and hold a mock funeral to **celebrate its retirement** and commit to using richer vocabulary.

Get ready for a week of fun and important learning! This year at CCE, we're teaming up our Digital Citizenship Week with Red Ribbon Week from 10/21-10/24.
This combined initiative allows us to teach our students about making safe, healthy, and responsible choices in all aspects of their lives—from choosing to be drug-free to choosing to be kind and smart when using technology.
We encourage all students to participate in our daily dress-up themes! Please see the attached flyer for the theme schedule, and help your child prepare for a great week. We also encourage you to use this week as a chance to chat with your student about what it means to be a healthy human and a good digital citizen!

Reynolds’ classic storybook for all ages The Dot, International Dot Day inspires young and old to embrace the power of personal creativity to help make their mark on the world, and move it to a better place.
